BOBBI BROWN MAKEOVER EXPERIENCE

One of my favourite things to do as a beauty blogger is going for makeovers and trust me I’ve had a few. It’s not often that I’m blown away or even impressed by the makeup skills of a brand ambassador or makeup artist, I guess that therein lies the difference. If you have problematic skin like myself it can be quite daunting to have your carefully executed makeup swiped off in front of a mirror under harsh lighting for all and sundry to see. We have become accustomed to the way we apply and prefer to wear our makeup so when somebody else does it for us it can be quite a shock both pleasant and far from. I am far more inclined to visit a brand boutique rather than a counter as I feel it’s more intimate and private so when I happened upon one in my local shopping center I jumped at the opportunity or rather I allowed myself to be fully immersed in an impromptu makeover experience. Sabrina is a makeup artist who specializes in bridal makeup which Bobbi Brown is well known for. She carefully removed one side of my makeup so that I could compare her application to mine. One of the first things I look for when having a makeover is how well they actually remove the makeup you came in with. I was pleasantly surprised at how meticulous she was at taking the time to really cleanse and prep my skin. The second step is shade matching foundation. She swatched about three different shades of the Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation on my jawline and concluded that the most accurate match would be Beige 3. In comparison to my original foundation side, it appeared so much more skinlike and natural looking without being heavy. It occurred to me I had been choosing foundations that were two to three shades darker than my skin tone and as a result, I was looking overly made up. I want to look natural and fresh and most of all a better version of myself. The Instagram influence of heavily applied makeup is just not cutting it anymore for me, it’s not realistic or applicable to everyday life. I am used to sporting a rather bold brow but Sabrina suggested I use a lighter shade to compliment the lighter tones in my hair and the result was a softer look that I really loved. She used the Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Taupe which is perfect for blondes. For my lips, we kept with the naturally enhanced theme using a soft rose shade called Sandwash Pink, which was used by Kate Middleton on her wedding day.

I was thrilled with the finished look. I left feeling pretty and feminine and above all like myself. I would highly recommend booking in with a Bobbi Brown makeup artist whether you are looking to update your makeup look or simply to learn the basics of makeup application. This was by far one of the best makeovers I have had in a long time and will definitely be going back for more!
