Face Basics Part 2 | Concealer

Now that you have mastered foundation, concealer is your next step to complexion perfection.Concealer typically has more pigment than foundation so a little goes a long way. You also want to consider the consistency. For example, you don’t want to apply a heavy cream under your eyes or a highlighting pen on your pimples. If you are covering blemishes or pigmentation you will need to choose a shade that matches your skin tone/foundation exactly. For dark circles, you may need to use a colour corrector first to counteract any discoloration. Bobbi Brown has a great shade selection. After correcting, you conceal using a concealer two shades lighter than your foundation. This helps brighten and bring definition to your face. Apply in an upside down triangle under your eye.

I also like to apply this down the centre of the nose, chin, cupids bow and between the brows this balances out the complexion so you don’t look you’ve had a pair of ski goggles on. My favourites are:

For blemishes/pigmentation I swear by Estee Lauder Double Wear High Cover Concealer SPF 35. This is a full coverage concealer that is lightweight, oil free, water, sweat and humidity resistant. It helps prevent darks spots as well as minimising the look of lines and wrinkles. This will cover just about everything.

Becca Ultimate Coverage Concealing Creme – lightweight, full coverage concealer with a high concentration of pigment and emollients for undetectable, crease-proof coverage without a sticky or cakey-feel.

For colour correction, Becca Undereye Brightening Corrector completely disguises  under eye darkness by brightening and evening skin tone. Infused with ultra-fine light-reflecting illuminators, this rich, luminescent crème won’t settle into fine lines or wrinkles and preps skin for concealer.

For undereyes – Mac Pro Longwear  A lightweight fluid concealer that provides medium to full coverage with a comfortable, natural matte finish. Doubles as an eyelid base too! Love this for nights out. This will not budge, crease or cake.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer – As the name suggests it’s super lightweight, great for every day.The high-tech formula melds like a second skin effect and gives you full coverage in an instant.Luminous, demi-matte finish.

Revlon Colourstay – a budget friendly lightweight concealer that works brilliantly. Time release technology balances imperfections for a continuously flawless look for up to 24 hours. Great range of shades too! Full undetectable coverage.

bareMinerals Well Rested– is the ultimate undereye brightener. If it’s Kim K you’re going for this is it! A super smooth, mineral powder that takes dark circles from dull to wide awake in 0.60 seconds! It’s amazing as an eye base too! Use this down the centre of the face for added brightening effect!

Application: I prefer to use a damp beauty blender as this ensures a smooth and even finish. A fine pin point brush is ideal for blemishes.

Let me know what some of your favourite concealers are.
