Prime Time

Once you understand the concept of a primer and choose the right one for you skin’s needs, you will be hooked! The difference a primer can make to you overall appearance and longevity of your makeup is incredible. I used think it was just an extra step with little or no benefit but how wrong was I? A primer is applied after your moisturiser and before your foundation. It acts as a protective shield between your skin and your makeup. There are so many to choose from so depending on what you want or the look you are trying to achieve, pick accordingly. These are some of my absolute favourites.

Soap&Glory-One Heck Of A Blot is a mattifying, pore reducing perfecting primer. Those of you with oily skin, this one is for you. This has a 12hr shine-bloc, so no greasy T-Zone at lunchtime. This can also be used during the day for touch-ups over makeup too! This lightweight, invisible formula glides onto skin making pores disappear like magic. It leaves skin soft, smooth and beautifully mattified, making foundation application a breeze. At £10 it’s a no brainer!

Rouge Bunny Rouge-Mattifying Primer Metamorphoses is rather expensive at £41 and to be quite honest it doesn’t do anything spectacular. I don’t find it particularly mattifying or that it makes any difference in my makeup lasting longer. I do however class this as an extra skin benefit as it’s infused with soothing active ingredients such as Allantoin and Meadowfoam Seed Oil which works in synergy to smooth the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. A high content of Vitamin E works to fight free radicals and provides the skin with luxurious ant-ageing and antioxidant benefits. This is predominantly where the price point comes from.

Benefit The Porefessional comes in at £24.50. This oil-free, lightweight primer minimizes pores, keeps shine at bay and provides a silky, smooth canvas for your foundation to glide on. You can also use this over makeup throughout the day.

Becca- Backlight Priming Filter is the oily girls glow. For those who still want luminosity without the disco ball effect. I adore this primer and have not been able to put it down since I bought it in October. It gives the most sensational finish on the skin that is fresh and glowing but not shiny. It’s expensive at £32 but so worth it. I would repurchase this in heartbeat! Packed with anti-aging vitamin E this primer is hands down the winner in my book!

What is your favourite primer?
