#FILTERDROP Why I’m No Longer Using Filters

I was inspired by Sasha Louise Pallari, creator of #FILTERDROP after listening to her on a recent podcast. #FILTERDROP is a campaign that called for it to be compulsory for influencers to state when they use a beauty filters to promote skincare or cosmetics. It began in June 2020 to spread awarness of how misleading these filters can be and how it effects our mental health. I don’t alter my pictures facially but I do like a filter on Instagram namely ‘Aden’ because it gives a uniformed soft tone to my grid. Things are changing and now more than ever we seek realness in others rather than the fake, glossified lives of some ‘influencers’. We want to realate and be relatable and normalise the way we look without altering our appearance or comparing ourselves to digitally ultered pictures.

We need to normalise the way we look. Nobody is perfect and completely flaw free and who wants to be anyway, it’s boring and a lot of upkeep if ask me. This constant pressure to have it all and be all is exhausting, you don’t need it all, you can be happy just as you are and appriciate the uniqueness of others. Nobody has all their shit together and we take comfort in knowing that. Yes, I too have a pile of laundry that still needs to get done, oh and the bins need to go out.

This picture is filter free, standing infront of a window which is the best light nature has to offer.

I’m also only following ‘real’ people on Instgram from now on. People who aren’t afraid of being themselves, sharing when they have had a shit day or not feeling their best.
