After suffering a terrible reaction to something that left my skin a spotty, irritated mess I decided to strip back my skincare products and go back to basics. Keeping it simple is key and my skin has never looked better for it! Combining some of my most loved skincare products, two of which are cheap as chips, has saved my skin months of agro! Where to start? Cleansing is the most important step in your routine because without a completely clean skin your other products are not going to work effectively.

  1. PM Remove makeup with a cleansing balm. My absolute favourite is the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm. This deep cleaning balm removes every last trace of makeup leaving skin noticeably clearer, super smooth and soft. Massage over dry skin and remove with a hot flannel or cleansing cloth for maximum results. It is incredible I can’t rave about it enough! Every other night I will apply my Obagi Tretinoin 0.1 to my face and neck. This has worked wonders for my acne prone skin, completely clearing it up plus it’s anti-aging too so it’s a win-win situation.                                                                               Shaz Saed -- Blonde Tea Party -- www.blonde-tea-party.com -- beauty and makeup tips --skin care -- retin a -- tretinoin 0.1 -- obagi -- acne prone skin -- antiage -- post tretinoin skin care routine -- current skin care regime --

2. AM I like to use a gentle face wash like bareMinerals Blemish Remedy mixed with Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant to keep my skin super smooth and free of any flaking. This works fantastically and is gentle enough for everyday use. It also makes makeup application a breeze!

3. Hydrate and repair. Now that skin is smooth and clean it’s time to lock in moisture to keep skin feeling comfortable and nourished throughout the day. I am a huge believer in layering products to achieve the best results. Start with a serum as this prepares skin and helps the efficacy of your moisturiser. I’m absolutely obsessed with bareMinerals Skinlongevity Vital Power Infusion. This gorgeous serum is packed with powerful anti-aging properties and skin nourishing herbs like the long life herb from Okinawa that brings life and vitality to lackluster skin. It’s one of the most pleasurable serums I’ve ever used! It gives skin the most wonderful glow. Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel Cream is a light gel that contains hyaluronic acid which acts as a humectant, drawing in moisture and keeping it there, locking in all the benefits of your serum. This is so lightweight you can hardly feel it, it just melts into skin leaving it unbelievably soft and supple. Now for the piste de resistance Bioderma Ultra-Moisturising Compensating Care for acne-prone skin that’s ultra-dry due to treatments. This little gem has completely diminished my constant peeling skin due to the Tretinoin I’m using. You get that just moisturised feeling all day long without the heaviness of a thick cream. It’s the best of both worlds. My skin feels ultra nourished and smooth and best of all it works beautifully under makeup.

Your skin changes all the time due to treatments, diet, weather etc so be sure to adjust your regimen accordingly. I hope you found this helpful and if you have any recommendations that have worked well for you please share in the comments below.
