A Few Tips On How I Banish The January Blues

January can often feel all doom and gloom with its laborious, dark days so I’ve come up with a few things that help me boost my mood. I find comfort and joy in the little things like a hot drink in my favourite mug, getting cosy in freshly washed pyjamas. Sometimes a bit of self-care is conducive to your mental state. For me, the ritual of bathing, getting dressed and putting on my makeup has a remarkably positive impact on my day. For example, I am much more productive in my daily tasks and more likely than not, to leave the house. I feel ready to face the day and if an impromptu coffee visit occurs no need to panic and rush about, it’s all systems go! Whereas if I was lingering in my bathrobe the mere thought of getting dressed would look like a laborious task, thus not meeting and missing out on human interaction which when you work from home is vital.

Exercise

Going to the gym and joining a group class such as Yoga, Body Combat or Zumba helps get you moving even just for 30 mins or so, it gets the oxygen flowing and you out of your head. My mood drastically drops if I don’t go regularly and the longer you leave it the less likely you will ever go. The reason why I recommend the classes is that you don’t have to think about it, you just turn up which is the hard part. You are with other people which helps raise your energy levels, you are all in it together. It helps to sweat out any nervous or anxious feelings and I find the music to be incredibly uplifting too! If you have constant mind chatter like me this is one of the only times it stops because you are focusing on the moves and not your thoughts. Yoga is especially helpful in getting grounded again, each posture releases unwanted energy and brings you back to the present moment. I always feel relaxed and calm afterwards not mention more supple. If you spend most of your day behind a computer Yoga is a great way to release tension.

Everybody has their own preference to what makes them feel good these are just a few examples of things that personally help me. I think it would be helpful if you would be so kind as to share some of your tips in the comments below. It doesn’t just have to be conducive to January it can be anytime no matter what the season.

I hope you found this helpful if not interesting. If you are new to my blog I would be ever so grateful if you would subscribe and if you fancy pop on over to my YouTube Channel and give me a cheek like on my FB Page!
