Foundations & Primers For Oily/Acne Prone Skin

Foundation happens to be my favourite part of makeup and I pride myself in choosing the correct formula, finish and shade for my skin. I have oily/acne prone skin so when I’m looking for a foundation I want to know how long lasting it is, how heavy the coverage is and if it’s oil free. I have built up quite a collection of foundations over the years and these are my top five.

Estee Lauder Double Wear Stay In Place Makeup SPF 10 – This is a full coverage foundation that will not melt, smudge or budge. It does exactly what it says on the tin. It’s legit bullet proof! I have worn this in torrential rain and it still looked picture perfect. It lasts well past 15 hours ( I’ve worn it for 24hrs ) with no need to touch up. The best way to apply this without it looking cakey and heavy is with a damp beauty blender. It gives the most airbrushed finish to the skin. I wear the shade 2w1 Dawn. P.S if you need a pump for your bottle you can buy them from MAC.

Revlon Colour Stay Combination/Oily SPF 15 -is a fantastic drugstore alternative to Double Wear. I used to wear this to work for years. It’s super blendable, looks natural on the skin and lasts for 24hrs! It’s available in a wide variety of shades. I wear 330 Natural Tan which is a bit too dark for me right now.

Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme – If you have highly sensitive skin this foundation will be perfect for you. It’s free of Parabens, Phthalates, alcohol and fragrance. This is maximum full coverage due to 21% pure pigment and 22% water. Yet it’s weightless and breathable. It completely conceals blemishes, hyperpigmentation and redness. It’s 24hrs wear, water resistant and transfer resistant. It’s also clinically proven to smooth, hydrate and improve the appearance of skin in 24 hours. How amazing is that?! I wear the shade Buff.

Loreal True Match – This foundation is comparable to Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk for a fraction of the price. This blends like a dream and is beautifully buildable. For those of you who prefer a more luminous finish, this one is for you. It looks gorgeous on the skin and photographs really well. There is a huge shade range available. I wear the shade 3.W Golden Beige.

bareMinerals Original and Matte SPF 15 – Mineral makeup is incredibly healing for problem skin. It has only five ingredients in it. If you are at school or just starting out with makeup this is perfect for you. It’s makeup that looks like your skin but better. It doesn’t block the pores or give you spots. I highly recommend bareMinerals it’s one of my all time favourite makeup brands and foundation. I have always had a jar of this since I was about fifteen years old. It’s fab for the gym too as it allows your skin to breathe and the added sun protection is a bonus! I wear the shade Medium Beige.

Primers create a barrier between your skin and your foundation. They all help to make your base last longer. They prepare skin for makeup providing a smooth canvas allowing foundation to glide on seamlessly.

Benefit Porefessional – This primer is oil-free and helps to smooth out the appearance of pores whilst mattifying skin. What is also fab about this is that you can also use it over makeup to combat shine throughout the day. I love using this under mineral makeup as it has a slight tint.

Soap and Glory One Heck Of A Blot – This is my favourite drugstore primer for shine control. It smooths out skin texture, shrinks pores and controls oil for up to 12 hrs.

bareMinerals Prime Time – This silky smooth primer controls shine and leaves skin velvety soft whilst blurring out imperfections.

Becca Backlight Priming Filter– This is a gorgeous luminous primer for those who don’t want to be completely matte. This imparts a lit from within glow that doesn’t look greasy or shiny. It’s beautiful worn alone or under foundation. I love to wear this under the Becca or Estee Lauder foundation.

What foundation and primer are you using at the moment?

Double Wear is my ALL TIME FAVE. But I’m not sure if it was DW or something else but I started to breakout massively. I am only using Chanel and Armani now. I want DW back but I’m scared….Do you wear it everyday? Does your skincare routine change when you use it?

BareMinerals is the best and I always have a jar on hand!

Hey Mel, I used to wear it daily for work and it never ever broke me out! Now I only use it for big days out/meetings etc and bareminerals on the daily. I think what makes people break out possibly, is not removing it properly. I always doubled cleansed with a cleansing balm and toned. It could also be the powder you set with. I use Rimmel stay matte or max factor loose setting powder.x
